Plants have varying growing habits, so you want to find those best suited for your local climate. The United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) has divided the country into 11 growing zones. These growing zones are based upon the minimum winter temperatures in each area. The USDA Hardiness Zones provide an excellent method of determining which plants are cold hardy in your local climate. The USDA zones are shown by primarily horizontal bands that stretch from west to east across the U.S. The lowest-numbered (coldest) zones are in the north, and the zone numbers get progressively higher toward the southern (warmer) parts of the country. Each climatic zone hosts a unique variety of plants that can impact shade trees make. Finding a viable plant for your area is simple. Enter your zip code in the box provided and the USDA Hardiness Zone you reside in will be displayed. All of the plants on the Nature Hills site have a climate zone recommendation displayed on each page. If your zip code-generated climatic zone falls within the plant´s recommended growing area, that plant should tolerate your area´s winter temperatures.

Being passionate about plants means that we have to be passionate about their safety when they are shipped. We take into consideration all aspects of shipping live plant material, including transit time, weather, packaging material, and boxing. That way, the plants that we take such pride in growing will be something that you will be proud to put in your garden.

We start by placing our hand-selected plants into first-rate containers that have been thoroughly “stress tested”. We have taken the time to make sure that our boxes can hold up to any abuse that can occur during the transit process. This ensures that your plants arrive safely at your doorstep.

When we ship potted material, the plants are well hydrated and shipped in ventilated boxes with special bracing designed for each container's size. This secures the plants and helps to keep them protected, even if the ride on the truck is a little bumpy. When shipping our bareroot material, we package the trees tightly in long narrow boxes after the roots have been pre-moistened, and then secure the item(s) to the box to prevent extra movement during shipping.

We also pay special attention to transit time and weather conditions. We start our spring and fall shipping when the conditions are right for planting in your specific area. In addition, we consider spikes in temperatures in the spring and fall, and ship only when the weather conditions won't damage your new plants.

In the spring, warmer temperatures can cause moisture to evaporate more quickly than it does when temperatures are cooler. We apply a moisture-retaining gel to bareroot material, and we make sure that potted material is well watered when warm weather hits. Cooler weather can also be a factor when shipping, as we want to make sure that plant material will not freeze in transit.

Rest assured, if the conditions are not safe to ship your plants, whether it is too hot or too cold, then Nature Hills will delay shipping until we are able to safely deliver our quality products to you.

We at Nature Hills strive for excellence in shipping standards, so that our customers receive nothing but the best in plant material. If something does happen to your order during shipping, (despite all of our efforts!), please notify us within 48 hours of your order's arrival.

If something unforeseen happens with your plants in the first year, we'll get you another one for half price. We won't ask for pictures or proof, all we need is your word. No hassles, no questions.

4) Since our replacement policy is no questions asked, it doesn't matter if the plant was eaten by a cow, Junior ran over it with the lawn mower, the family dog dug it up, rabbits nibbled it away, Dad got too close with the string trimmer, a hurricane came through, or it just fell victim to a “purple thumb”. Plant Types and Container Sizes	close[x]
We sell many different types of plants and products. On each product page, we have a Type field that explains what type of plant the product is. Here is a description of those product types:
	Select (bare root) Trees - Hand selected quality bare root trees. The height of the tree you will receive will be displayed under the icon. Popular sizes of Select Trees are 1 foot, 2 feet, 3 feet, etc.
	Select (bare root) Plants - Hand selected quality bare root plants.The height of the plant you will receive will be displayed under the icon. Popular sizes of Select Plants are 1 foot, 18 inches, etc.
	Select (bare root) Small Fruits - Hand selected quality small fruit plants. The height and # of plants in the pack you will receive is displayed above and below the image. (Ex. 3 Pack of 1 foot Plants).
Note on No. 1 Select sizes: You may see No. 1 used as the size of Select Tree/Plant. A Number 1 grade plant is the best graded bare root plant there is.
	Potted Plants & Trees - Quality plants and trees with developed root systems will have this icon. Typical sizes of our potted plants and trees are 3.5" Pots, 1 Gallon Pots and 2 Gallon Pots. Our 3 gallon pot is 11” wide x 9 1/2 “ deep which is equal to 2.296 gallons or 8.694 liters in volume. Our 2 gallon pot is equal to 6.9 quarts or 6.6 liters in volume. Our 1 gallon pot is equal to 2.76 quarts or 2.51 liters in volume. Our 5.5" pot is 5 1/2" x 5" x 5" which is equal to 1.89 of a quart or 1.78 of a liter in volume. Our 4.5" pot is 4.5 inches round x 4 inches deep and equal to 1.31 pints or 619.8 milliliters in volume. Our 4" and 3.5" pots may measure 4"x 4"x 3 1/2" which is equal to .87 of a quart or .82 of a liter in volume or 3 1/2" x 3 1/2" x 3 1/2" which is equal to .67 of a quart or .63 of a liter in volume.
	Plant and Flower Bulbs - Quality bulbs, roots and tubers. The # of bulbs included in the pack is displayed below the bulbs images.
	Seed Packets - Our seed packets will contain this icon.
Other product types will simply list what type of product it is. Some examples of these include bags of seed, trays of plugs and garden center items.

Charles Joly Lilac, Syringa vulgaris 'Charles Joly', is a French Hybrid lilac with shiny purple buds opening into double, magenta flowers that are very fragrant, and excellent for cutting. This strong, long-lasting shrub has an upright shape and is easily grown in average, medium moist, well-drained soil in full sun. Charles Joly Lilac tolerates light shade, but best bloom is in full sun. It prefers organically rich, slightly acidic soils with good drainage. With its lovely spring accent, it makes a wonderful screen or border specimen. It grows 10-12 feet tall and 8-10 feet wide. This hardy, disease and deer resistant lilac, is simply stunning as it shows off its vivid coloration of the deep, wine-red flowers. It is considered to be the best in its color class.
